Decision Support System

adminBest practice, Tools & resources

Landcare Research has developed a decision support system (DSS) which aims to help New Zealanders, from novices to experts, select the most appropriate options for controlling vertebrate pests in a particular locality.

Using your answers to a series of questions about the control operation you want to undertake, the DSS systematically evaluates the potential constraints that may be operating in the area, and provides you with ‘best practice’ advice and other information about the recommended options. Presently the DSS covers six common pests: possums, rodents (rats and mice), ferrets, stoats, and feral cats.
Selecting best practice also involves ethics and humaneness.
