We’ve identified three courses available for secondary students:
- Project Possum – stage 1 involves senior secondary students learning, practising and being assessed on skills and knowledge related to possum trapping, skinning, fur and pelt recovery, possum biology and their environmental impact. The course offers level 2 and 3 NCEA credits. There is also the opportunity for schools and students to set up related small businesses.
- Project Possum – stage 2 offers three one-day courses of Controlled Substance Licence (CSL) training for community members and senior students (aged 17 years and over). This certification enables those who qualify to lay possum-killing toxins like cyanide. Applicants must undergo a NZ Police check to hold the qualification.
- Project Mustelid — students explore mustelid pest control, biology and environmental impacts as well as participating in practical sessions.
