What is causing all the willows in Rodney to be under stress from a black sooty mould that was worst this past Summer and which then attracted the german wasp in huge numbers? It might be connected to a similar mould that attacks teetree but I haven’t noticed our teetrees under any additional threat in recent years.
The reason I ask is not that I like the crack willow taking over stream banks, but that exotic weeping willow species are also coming under sever pressure. Is there anything one can reasonably do to stop this scurge in the garden?

Thanks. I wasn’t aware of this aphis but that sounds very likely.
